Main One is Fiber Optic Telecommunications cable installed in 2010. It carries internet, voice, fax, data and other communications, as well as High Voltage. Mariners and fishermen are advised to avoid anchoring, dredging or using other gear that penetrates the seabed near the cable, as shown on the sketch below
The cable was buried into the seabed where feasible, but it may still be damaged by anchors, dredges or other gear. If your gear becomes entangled with the cable, it may cause damage to the cable, to your vessel, and/or to persons on board. To avoid the risk of damage and possible electrocution do not try to lift the cable – please cut away the snagged anchor, dredge or gear, and call the contact numbers shown on the front of the flier as soon as possible. If the cable is damaged by your wilful or negligent action, you may be subject to legal action and significant fines to cover repair costs, unless done to protect the safety of vessel or crew. |
