Dr (Mrs.) Mabel Yarhere is the Current Director (IOI-NIGERIA). She took over from Dr E.O. Oyewo who just retired from Public Service in 2015.  Dr Mabel Yarhere is an Assistant Director (Fisheries Extension and Communication Research) in the Fisheries Resources Department of the Nigerian Institute of Oceanography and Marine Research (NIOMR). She is the Head of Extension, Research and Liaison Services Section. Dr Mabel Yarhere joined NIOMR as Public Relations Officer before converting to the Research cadre after she obtained her Masters Degree in Mass Communication from the University of Lagos in 1995.  She then proceeded to the University of Ibadan where she obtained her PhD in Fisheries Extension and Communication from the Communication and Language Arts in 2009.  Her Thesis was on ‘Influence of Communication Approaches on Fisherfolks’ Adoption of Fisheries Technologies in three Agro-Ecological Zones of Nigeria’.
She is married to Barrister (Chief) Joshua Yarhere and by association Chief (Dr) Mrs. Mabel Yarhere was also coroneted as the ‘Okeneke of Ughievben’ in Urhobland in 2013. They are blessed with five children and nine grandchildren to the Glory of God. Her hobbies include singing in a Church Choir, swimming and walking long distances.

Notes:         I have been involved in various oceanographic sea cruises organised by GCLME/IOC in Nigeria. Involved in Marine debris workshops and beach cleanups in the Gulf of Guinea. Currently head of the Extension, Research and Liaison services of NIOMR and a PhD holder in Fisheries Communication and Language arts.

Nubi Olubunmi Ayoola (PhD)

Dr Nubi Olubunmi A. is a principal researcher with the Nigerian Institute for Oceanography and Marine Research, Lagos Nigeria. He is a highly motivated scientist with proven track record of research in physical oceanography and applications, marine pollution studies, coastal zone management, and Climate Change. His involvements in International Ocean Institute's activities, coupled with his participation to the training on Ocean governance and law of the Sea for Africa has been astounding. He has excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to develop relationships with key opinion leaders and multiple stakeholders across diverse disciplines on matters relating to the peaceful use of the Ocean and integrated coastal zone management.
